Forbes Under 30 Summit EMEA To Host Wide-Ranging Service Day  To Promote Co-Existence

Some 600 Young Superstar Entrepreneurs From Around Israel and the World Will Engage in a Hackathon to Promote Co-Existence, Speak at Schools and Culture Institutions Across Greater Jerusalem and Mentor Businesses in the Palestinian city of Rawabi, Among Other Activities

JERUSALEM (March 29, 2016) – Forbes today announced that it will be hosting a Service Day in Jerusalem on April 7, 2016 as the capstone of the Forbes Under 30 Summit EMEA’s (Europe, Middle East and Africa) efforts to leverage the results-driven mindset of its 600 summit attendees and truly make an impact in the local community.

As part of Forbes’ Service Day, the young leaders and game changers who are attending Forbes’ Under 30 Summit EMEA (the majority of whom are honorees on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 lists) will have a choice of participating in the following:

Entrepreneurship Hackathon – Innovation for Change: Forbes is partnering with Jerusalem Venture Partners to host a hackathon, held at the Jerusalem Media Quarter, involving more than 150 “innovators of change”— half of whom are top entrepreneurs culled from the global ranks of the Forbes 30 Under 30 lists, the other half young emerging Israeli and Arab innovators. The hackathon participants will be divided into 12 teams, with the mission of co-creating products, coding and brainstorming solutions to foster “Co-Existence” in the region and globally. Leading local entrepreneurs will coach each team. The top teams will receive mentoring; some will present their products at the global Forbes Under 30 Summit in Boston, October 16-19, 2016.

Inspiration Through Education: More than 100 Under 30 Summit EMEA attendees will fan out across East and West Jerusalem in Arab and Jewish areas to speak at assemblies and mentor junior high school and high school students, secular and religious, girls and boys, at more than 20 different schools around greater Jerusalem.  Each school is developing an individualized program.  These attendees will have the opportunity to inspire the next young generation of game changers.

Palestinian Entrepreneur Mentorship: Forbes Under 30 Summit EMEA attendees will travel to the Palestinian city of Rawabi, a new development focused on startups, to meet and mentor young Palestinian entrepreneurs, with the hope of fostering long-term relationships.

Cultural Immersion:  Forbes will host a series of events connecting Forbes Under 30 Summit EMEA participants to various institutions in the area of arts, music and culture.  Okieriete Onaodowan, one of the stars of the Broadway smash Hamilton, will lead a discussion and mentor the YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus (music).  Other key partners include Seeds of Peace (dialogue), PeacePlayers International (sports), EcoPeace (environment) and cultural exchange (MEDJO Tours).

“One of the cornerstones of our Under 30 Summits is Service Day, which allows Forbes and the young superstars we bring together to give back to our host communities,” said Randall Lane, Editor of Forbes magazine.  “In Jerusalem, our goal is to promote co-existence. We hope to build bridges that will transcend politics and allow for cooperation and understanding.”

“The Forbes Under 30 Summit perfectly captures Jerusalem’s unique entrepreneurial spirit. The Service Day, which caps off the week, reflects our city’s deep commitment to promoting diversity, equality and a strong sense of community,” said Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.  “We are very proud to be partnering with Forbes for this special event and look forward to welcoming the 600 leaders of tomorrow to Jerusalem. Together, we will work to create a better future for our city, our country, the region and the world.”
